WILDLIFE ART

WILD LIFE ART My first discipline in sculpture was in wildlife art carving where I spent nine years training myself to see realism using no more then good reference photos. Often a trip or two to the library, zoo or aquarium to research the anatomical strengths of the subject. I then began to work starting with potter’s clay I create a life size model, once I am happy with the shape and pose, I began roughing it out in wood. next I begin refining the piece. this is where the years of experience come in reading the reference photos. I pick up detail that may not be noticed by some and add it in but this is only half the battle, next comes the part that you the viewer sees, the paint. I have perfected a glazing technique that gives an intense felling realism, by using several coats of acrylic paint (as many as forty) I create ascertain depth to my work that must be seen. In brief this is how the wildlife art by Sal is made. Note most of these pieces are not stock items they are commissions
